RTE's Daithi O'Se calls Maura Derrane 'partner in crime' as they reunite on screen after 'frenemy' comments

RTE's Maura Derrane and Daithi O'Se enjoyed a blast from the past as they reunited on screen this week for their 10th season of Today.

Opening the long running show on Wednesday afternoon, Daithi beamed: "My old partner in crime is back."

Maura added: "Great to be back. It’s lovely, and I love our new set and it feels lovely in the studio."

It comes after Maura told of her offence when Daithi claimed that the pair rarely speak or socialise outside of work.

Dáithí told the RTE Guide: “When I finish the run in May, I won’t speak with Maura again until a week or so before we go back on air in September.

“We are never in each other’s pockets and we’ve never pretended to be best friends, hanging out with each other after work and all that".

He added: “The only time we spend together is the time in rehearsal or live on the show and that has worked for both of us".

The TV duo, who are about to start their 10th season of co-hosting the Today Show, are known for their on-screen chemistry so fans were surprised when Daithi suggested that the key to their success is keeping their distance outside of work.

But Maura admitted she too was surprised, and said she quickly confronted her ‘frenemy’ to see what the story was.

The show’s return features a number of shake-ups this season, with Emer O’Neill presenting alongside Daithi on Monday and Tuesdays whilst Sinead Kennedy remains on maternity leave.

It comes after Maura stepped back from the show and reduced her schedule to three shows a week last year.

Today airs weekday afternoons on RTE One at 3.30pm.
