RTE's Brendan O'Connor and Royal expert discuss Prince Harry 'going too far' with latest comments

What looked like bridges being mended was later revealed to be just a plaster on the wound as Prince Harry has opened up about growing up in the Royal Family.

"A mixture between the Truman show and being in a zoo" was how Prince Harry described life in the Royal Family in a podcast interview earlier this week.

"I'm going to make sure that I break that cycle [of suffering], so that I don't pass it on," said the Prince while being interviewed on the Armchair Experience, by host Dax Shepard.

Former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond described the revelation as "full of vitriol" this morning on the Brendan O'Connor morning show on RTE Radio 1.

"After the funeral, it really did look as if [Prince Harry and Prince William] were having quite a relaxed, friendly and affectionate conversation, and we hoped that the bridges were being mended.

"It really is a strange forum for Harry to be on, because if you listen to the full podcast, it's really quite undignified."

O'Connor and Bond pointed out the hypocrisy of some of Prince Harry's sentiments on the podcast, stating: "he says we must not apportion blame or point the finger, and then he does exactly that."

"You wonder if Harry is hearing himself, what he is saying.

"It certainly doesn't display the empathy and the compassion, which he and his wife Meghan are always talking about."

O'Connor later asked if Prince Harry has gone too far in this latest interview as "the Royal Family seem to be very genuinely hurt by this."

Since the interview was broadcast, Palace aides have reportedly called for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to be stripped of their titles.

"Put yourself in the Royal Family's position, I wouldn't be surprised if conversations like that are being held," said Ms Bond.

"If you don't want to be part of Royal life, then don't call yourself 'royal' and don't trade on your title, which they are doing.

"I am surprised he is doing this so publicly, but the reason is quite clear: it's commercial interest.

He is promoting his TV series that he has made with Oprah Winfrey about mental health, which starts airing next week."

The Me You Can't See starts airing from May 21 on Apple TV+.
