RTE Ryan Tubridy replacement confirmed as presenter takes short radio break

A replacement for RTE favourite Ryan Tubridy has been announced as the presenter takes a break from his morning radio show.

The host will take a much needed break after a hectic week of Late Late Toy Show preparations.

Taking to Twitter, experienced radio presenter Rick O'Shea announced that he would be filling in for Ryan on Monday.

He said: "Very exciting…

"*throat clear* Looks like I'll be filling in for Ryan on @RyanTubridyShow this coming Monday 28th on @RTERadio1.

"It'll be my first time. Go easy on me…"

Twitter users and colleagues were quick to congratulate Rick on taking over the prime slot.

Today FM host Declan Pierce said: "Love this! No better man, dude!!"

While Prime Time presenter Fran McNulty said: "Great News, Rick. Not a bother to you!"

Rick is no stranger to the airways as he has worked for RTE since 2001, prior to 2017 on RTE 2FM and since then, presenting weekday mornings on RTE Gold.

Ryan Tubridy will take a step back from his role in the show to take a break after he has been busy preparing for the annual Toy Show.

He has shared snippets of all the work that is put in throughout Toy Show week in preparation for the big day.

In an Instagram story on Wednesday, Ryan shared one of the many letters he gets from children across the country as excitement builds about the annual Christmas show.

In the snap, he said: "Eoghan Dolan is 10 and has started a petition to make Toy Show Day the new bank holiday."

The letter read: "(Very Important) Dear Ryan Tubridy..

"Hello, my name is Eogahn Dolan and I am from Julianstown county Meath and I am a HUGE fan of the Late Late Toy Show. Anyways I was thinking how sad it is that your toy show is on a school day. So maybe just maybe you could try to get this note to Leo Varadkar or Micheal Martin so that they can help me…

"Here is my plan… Make the late late toy show a national holiday (or a bank holiday, just as good) because I heard from my dada that Ireland is looking for a new bank holiday so I made a petition to make the toy show a bank holiday. (The petition is attached to this letter)".

  • The Toy Show will be broadcast on RTE One at 9.35pm on Friday, November 26.
