RTE Reeling in the Years viewers in stitches over newsreader Aengus Mac Grianna’s 2013 gaffe

RTE Reeling in the Years viewers were in stitches on Sunday night over newsreader Aengus Mac Grianna’s 2013 gaffe.

The RTE news anchor was unaware that the cameras had gone live as he prepared himself for the broadcast.

His makeup pad, the fixing of the outfit, and the disbelieving "...what?" have been a viral clip ever since.

Many viewers found it even funnier, eight years after it happened.

One viewer posted on Twitter: "Ah man Aengus and his "WHAT?!" Brilliant stuff!."

Another posted: Another classic RTE news moment.....Extremely relevant in today’s world of last minute zoom video calls!"

One said: "That scene with Aengus was even funnier 8 years later #ReelingInTheYears".

The show recalls 2013, when the horse meat scandal spread across Europe, Northern Ireland hosted the ‘G8’ summit of world leaders, Ireland’s women’s rugby team won the Grand Slam and Wicklow singer-songwriter Hozier released ‘Take Me To Church’ .

Dublin bested Mayo by a single point after a dramatic All-Ireland Final and Rob Heffernan claimed world 50km gold.

It included music from Daft Punk, Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, along with Bastille, Birdy, Hozier and London Grammar.
