RTE viewers all saying same thing after chilling programme ending last night

The 2010s series Reeling In The Years concluded tonight with 2019 seeing us out.

The big stories featured on the episode included the tragic deaths of journalist Lyra McKee and Gay Byrne, a big election win for the Conservatives in the UK which ironclad Brexit, Donald Trump visiting Ireland, and the Notre Dame cathedral burning.

As ever, there was success and failure to ponder in sport, as Ireland missed out on automatic qualification for the Euros, Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers took domestic trophies from each other, Dublin set a record with five All-Ireland Football titles in a row, and Shane Lowry made the Claret Jug the Clara Jug.

But we all had an inkling about what was going to close the show - and sure enough, RTE left us hanging with this chilling screengrab.

"On 31 December 2019, international news agencies carry the first reports of an unknown virus".

We don't need to go into it anymore here, but safe to say that was quite the way to end both the episode and the series.

And several people on social media agreed - though we'll have to wait for another ten years to find out what happened...
