RTE Prime Time viewers heap praise on Miriam O'Callaghan and reporters for Ukraine coverage

RTE received praise on social media last night for their "excellent" Prime Time episode on Ukraine.

There were a number of reporters featured on the programme who were situated at various points along Ukraine's borders.

Those included Paul Cunningham and Fran McNulty.

Viewers watched as fleeing refugees desperately pleaded for help to Fran, who was stationed at a train station on the border with Hungary.

There was also a large focus on how the war is being reported in Russia, with host Miriam O'Callaghan speaking to Jake Cordell of the Moscow Times.

That came after a special focus from Mark Coughlan and John Cunningham on the coverage of the invasion in the likes of Moscow, St Petersburg and other cities.

One shocking moment saw a researcher's building shake after a nearby explosion while in the middle of an interview with Prime Time reporter Louise Byrne.

The fascinating episode got plenty of praise on social media.

One person tweeted: "An excellent and much needed report on how Putin's Russian media are using disinformation and propaganda to completely con their citizens.

A second added: "Excellent coverage of Russian TV's misinformation to its own people about Ukraine."

Vladimir Putin has brazenly claimed Ukrainian forces are using civilians as human shields.

The Russian President said on Thursday that Moscow military operations in Ukraine were "going according to plan" and praised its soldiers as "heroes."

In televised statements, Putin made a series of allegations against the Ukraine forces, none of which he backed up with any evidence.

Among them was a claim that Ukraine were holding foreign citizens hostage and using human shields.

His confidence comes despite reports suggesting intel showed he planned to take Kyiv within 48 hours.

One week since the start of the invasion, they have still not gained control of the capital.
