RTE Prime Time viewers disappointed with Miriam O'Callaghan's Leo Varadkar interview

Prime Time viewers were not happy with Tuesday night's interview with Leo Varadkar.

Miriam O'Callaghan spoke to the Tanaiste about the latest Covid-19 announcements made yesterday, however viewers were disappointed with the exchange.

Taoiseach Michael Martin revealed that the easing of certain restrictions would go ahead on October 22.

Nightclubs will reopen this Friday, however there will be rules around capacity and vaccine passes.

There was widespread confusion over the exact rules around pubs and nightclubs. The Taoiseach confirmed there will be “anomalies” and different measures in place depending on the setting.

Leo Varadkar appeared on Prime Time to address the confusion around the new restrictions.

However, many viewers felt Miriam O'Callaghan's interview was a "soft touch" and would have preferred to see Sarah McInerney take on the Tanaiste.

One person said: "Might as well brought in his pillow how come @SarahAMcInerney isn't let at him."

A second stated: "Soft touch for Leo again chatting to Miriam...RTE doing what they're told. Sarah would destroy him but that's obviously not allowed."

A third opined: "Must have refused to be interviewed by Sarah..."

While a fourth added: "Easy interviewer for him."

Someone else said: "Who reckons Leo Varadkar asks to be interviewed by Miriam O'Callaghan rather than Sarah McInerney."

"Twin peaked , Sarah isolated, Miriam asking questions like herself and Leo are at a nite club," another person said.

A disappointed viewer wrote: "Damn Sarah isn't interviewing LV on #rtept!"

While another chimed in: "#rtept why didn’t @SarahAMcInerney do this she will let him waffle waffle waffle."
