RTE Prime Time Andrew McGinley: Chilling moment dad found his three dead children inside Dublin home

Andrew McGinley has described the chilling moment he found his three dead children inside his Dublin home.

Their mother Deirdre Morley was found not guilty by reason of insanity of their murders today.

The father of deceased Conor, Darragh and Carla spoke exclusively to Miriam O'Callaghan in a programme that aired just hours after the verdict.

The dad detailed in RTE's Prime Time exactly what happened on that tragic day of January 24 2020 when he returned home to find his wife unconscious outside his home and his three children dead inside.

Recalling the moment, Andrew said that he found Conor first before discovering his other two kids.

He said: "I opened the door and I found Conor, first of all. And then the fire brigade had been attending the scene outside and they came in with me and we found Darragh and Carla then as well.

"It's somewhat surreal when your house becomes a crime scene because I was just outside and you just don't know what to do and what to say to anybody.”

Andrew still lives in the Newcastle home, that he shared with his wife Deirdre and the three kids.

The same house where the murders took place.

Speaking about the house, he said: "It still feels like home, you know, everywhere I look around, I can see happy, happy memories of the kids. It was a happy house. They were very happy kids. I think it was because they were such great friends."

Andrew continues to celebrate the lives of his children and keeps their memories alive, finding comfort from the video recordings on his son's video camera.

He continued: "I'm no good to anybody curled up in a ball in the corner. And everybody wants to help. Everybody wants to support me, friends and family, are looking to me to what they can do.

"So the more mad the idea that I can come up with to celebrate their lives then the more I can get people to help. And I'd rather be doing that than just be dressed in black and with the curtains drawn. I want to be out there shouting about the kids."

Andrew McGinley's interview with Miriam O'Callaghan will air on Thursday on Prime Time at 9:35pm on RTE One and is also available on the RTE Player.
