RTE presenter Mary Kennedy embracing her age after retirement, menopause and marriage breakdown

RTE presenter Mary Kennedy has opened up on how she feels about retirement, menopause and marriage breakdown.

The legendary presenter, 65, says she is at "just another big stage" in her life but is embracing her age.

The former Nationwide host, who quit the show for good in September, is hoping to feel as content in the future as she does right now.

Mary told the RTE Guide: "Menopause is a big stage, marriage breakdown is a big stage, children getting married is a big stage, so this (retirement) is just another big stage - it's life.

"I don't shy away from any of them.

"I think you're stronger for talking about them rather than glossing over them.

"I don't want to get to the end and think all I did was work.

"I want to have time to spend with people who are close to me."

The Dubliner also told how she thinks it's important to talk about these stages in life and goes to see a counsellor roughly once a month.

She added: "It's important to do it in good times as well as bad.

"Talking about these things gives me a sense of peace."

Mary also became a grandmother for the first time this year and told how her grandson Paddy lives with her and she's enjoying every moment with the tot.

RSVP Live reports that she added: "I don't remember being with my children the way I am with Paddy.

"Just sitting and feeding him and enjoying the moment."
