RTE presenter Jacqui Hurley in 'harsh realisation' Covid hit house in isolation for Christmas

RTE presenter Jacqui Hurley said she has had a 'harsh realisation' that her house will be in isolation for Christmas after being struck down with Covid.

The TV star took to social media to reveal that her house will be spending Christmas indoors but remained positive and upbeat and thanked her friends and family for their support.

She said: "Tough few days as whole house has been hit by covid. Harsh realisation that we’re in isolation for Christmas has been helped massively by our kind & thoughtful neighbours & friends. Thank you all so much. People really are amazing"

And the author of popular book Girls Play Too also said that her mother was the HSE contact tracer that contacted her after her positive test.

She added: "The other lovely light note in the chaos…when I answered the HSE contact tracing call it was my mum. She figured after a week of those calls I might like to hear a familiar voice. Small gestures make a huge difference"

The news comes on the back of cases sky rocketing in Ireland with Tanaiste Leo Varadkar saying Ireland could see a record high in case numbers with the Fine Gael leader saying: “I think we will see some very high case numbers in the coming weeks.

“They will scare people but I don’t think they’ll translate into the levels of hospitalisation or ICU admissions or deaths that maybe we fear.

“But that won’t be clear really for another couple of weeks but that’s really why we proposed these restrictions as of today.

“It’s never just about the restrictions.

“Government restrictions can only go so far, it is about what we all do as individuals and families.

“That’s why it’s really important that people get that booster dose...we hope to have 2 million boosted by the New Year.”
