RTE presenter Claire Byrne opens up on life with her three kids and balancing motherhood with her busy career

RTE presenter Claire Byrne has opened up on life with her three children as she balances motherhood with her busy career.

The journalist admits she doesn't know how she spent her free time before having them, RSVP Live reports.

"I look back on my years before I had children and I wonder what in God's name was I doing with my time," she told the RTE Guide.

"This morning I was up at half six to make lunches for the children, before getting them into their uniforms and getting myself ready for work.

"When I get in here to work I find that the sole of my shoe is hanging off.

"So if I want to do exercise, I have to get up before anyone else and do it before the madness starts."

Claire has three children - Patrick, Jane and Emma, who she shares with husband Gerry Scollan.

The RTE presenter previously admitted to RSVP Magazine that she is a bit nervous about raising children in the digital age.

She told us: "They are aware of YouTube, but as they have grown we have become more aware of the dangers of screen time and allowing them access to the internet. They are at a stage where they are young enough to allow us to pull the strings on that.

"I am not really looking forward to the battles over phones and internet down the line!"

Meanwhile, Claire recently revealed how she nearly died when she was a teenager .

Aged 14 at the time, she was given the last rites after spending a month in hospital following a meningitis diagnosis.

While she wasn't overly fazed by the situation at the time, but as a mum, she can now empathise with the stress and fear her parents were feeling back then.

Recalling the illness, Claire, told the Irish Times: "For me it was just I was sick and I got better.

"But now, when I look back and think that my parents had to stand by the bed while I got the last rites, I think, God, if I was going through that with my kids, I don’t think I’d be able to think about it.”
