RTE News viewers left baffled as graphic appears to get map of Ireland wrong

Viewers tuning into the Nine O'Clock News on RTE on Thursday night were left baffled after the national broadcaster showed a graphic which claimed Donegal was part of Northern Ireland.

The gaffe was shown during a report on hauliers discussing the significant problems they are facing due to new checks on deliveries to Northern Ireland from Britain following Brexit.

During the segment, a map of Great Britain and Ireland was shown on a graphic behind presenter Sharon Ní Bheoláin with the colours of the Union Jack distinguishing the United Kingdom from the Republic of Ireland.

However, the map contained a noticeable error as Donegal was incorrectly included as part of Northern Ireland, with viewers quick to call out RTE News over the blunder.

"Rte everything okay with Donegal there," one viewer wrote on Twitter alongside a picture of the incorrect map.

"Hey #RTE as you've removed #Donegal from #Eire can I have a refund on my #TV license???" another wrote.

"@rtenews I’m sure the good people of Donegal love your map," a third added.

And another Twitter user added: "@rte check out our #Donegal map portal to see where the border is!  donegal.maps.arcgis.com  Geography matters! Let's get it right."
