RTE News gaffe as viewers left baffled

RTE One viewers tuning into Thursday night's news were left baffled to discover there was no sound.

People scrambled to turn the volume up only to discover that it was some sort of a technical issue mainly affecting Sky viewers.

While RTE One was silent during Eileen Dunne's segment, people were relieved to find RTE News still had sound.

A number of Twitter users took to social media following the gaffe.

One person said: "RTE News should at least put on the sign language wan."

Another person said: "Is this a RTE problem or a sky tv problem? Or a test of the nation's capacity to lip read?"

A third person joked: "Hello @rte!

"Did someone press the mute button on poor Eileen Whelan? Sorry, Eileen Dunne!"

Another person said: "@rtenews the mime o’clock news is on if anyone is interested #RTE #nosound."
