RTE legend Charlie Bird suffering 'major issues' with his speech as he's forced to decline interviews

RTE broadcasting legend Charlie Bird has revealed he's suffering from "major issues" with his speech.

The retired journalist opened up to his followers that the problems mean he can't do interviews and that's he's not quite sure what is causing it.

Mr Bird said: "Declined two radio interviews today on Don Tidey kidnap and shoot out which I reported on at the time.

"Why - over the past four months I’ve had major issues with my speech.Despite series of tests still don’t know what is going on. Thanks to my pals for their support. Stay safe."

Many friends and fans wished the broadcaster all the best in his recovery.

Bird, now aged in his 70s, retired from RTE back in 2021.
