Charlie Bird has said his voice is now "failing" him as he continues to battle Motor Neurone Disease.
The legendary RTE broadcaster has bravely opened up on his health struggles since he was diagnosed with MND earlier this year.
And has said he is overwhelmed by the support of the Irish people as his health begins to deteriorate.
Bird also expressed his joy at the prospect of joining Vicky Phelan for a Croagh Patrick climb in 2022.
He tweeted on Friday: "A big thank you to everyone for the support I have received. My voice is now failing, but my goal is to climb Croagh Patrick hopefully end of March. Date will be announced in a week or so.I am praying my new BBF Vicky Phelan will be by my side.Vicky I think about you every day."
Speaking to the Irish Mirror this week, the 72-year-old said: “I know I am dying. How long I’ll be around for, I don’t know.
“I hate to say it, I am scared of dying. We all die, but I know my final days are coming.
“As a journalist, when you were working abroad you never knew what was going to happen to you. I want to live as much as possible and help anyone I can. If I last a year, it will be like winning the lottery.”
Christmas songs on the radio make Charlie cry, because, “I will never hear another one again after this year”.
He added: “I’m trying to be positive, but I’m tearful – that happens all the time.”
