RTE Late Late Toy Show viewers loved Kellie Harrington's 'incredible' gesture in surprise appearance

RTE Late Late Showers were delighted as Kellie Harrington made a surprise appearance on tonight's RTE Late Late Toy Show.

Harrington made the surprise appearance in a segment with sport-mad kids Darcy and Poppy as the role model got in on the fun and games.

And that's not all, the Olympics hero had a present for the girls as she gave away two signed Olympics vests as well as signed gloves.

And fans took to Twitter to glow over the Portland Row boxer, with one fan saying: "Kellie Harrington is a real gem and such an incredible role model and is up for the craic too!".

"Aren't we blessed to have Kellie Harrington. An incredible role model for us all," another added.

One joked: "I would like Kellie Harrington to be my mate, she seems so nice".

"Kellie Harrington is a national treasure. Such a nice person," a fan summarised.

Fans were already speculating well before the show that the lightweight boxer was a shoe-in to make an appearance after RTE revealed the theme.

And after the opening dance number, fans were straight onto social media to ask whether Harrington will be on the show.

"If Kellie Harrington isn’t on the show I’ll be mad," one fan said.

"After that opening if Kellie Harrington isn't a surprise guest then well it's a missed opportunity," another fan added.

Harrington caught the imagination of the Irish public for her care-free use of the iconic 'Hakuna Matata, it means no worries' phrase on her way to Olympics gold.

The Portland Row hero defeated Brazilian Beatriz Ferreira in the decider by unanimous decision to etch her name into Irish Olympics history in August.

And she was welcomed back to Dublin as she received an open top bus tour from Dublin airport to her north-inner city home as thousands lined the streets of the capital.
