RTE Late Late Show viewers react to 'emotional' Olympic assault victim Jack Woolley as Dublin city criticised

Olympian Jack Woolley joined Ryan to discuss how he's coped with being in the spotlight over the last six weeks.

But the taekwondo star, 22, was the victim of a sickening unprovoked horror attack after going for a meal with pals in the capital.

The Dubliner who competed at the Tokyo Games was left bloodied after a beating in the city centre and his assault attracted global media attention.

He spoke about his road to recovery to Ryan Tubridy, and fans reacted to his brave Late Late appearance.

One viewer tweeted: “Cork and Dublin are dangerous any night out. Definitely need police presence. This young guy is an inspiration to young kids!”

Another posted: “Unfortunately, suffering a random attack in Dublin late at night is much more common than people think.”

A third said: “I still don’t understand the mentality of some people who go out for the purpose of physically harming someone else. What sad little lives, do they live to get a kick out of that?”

Others said: “Jack Woolley is an impressive young man.”

"Poor lad. Really feel the emotion in his voice".

"Jack Woolley coming across very well. Lucky to not have any damage from the attack and he looks great. Hard to see scaring. Well done Jack. Proud of you."

And a final posted: “I feel for Jack and it was a terrible thing to happen of course but I find it odd that people have a natural instinct to get a photo of themselves in such a condition. But it went viral.”
