RTE Late Late Show viewers hail 'fantastic' Nell Mescal on debut as proud parents watch in audience

RTE Late Late Show viewers took to social media on Friday night to praise Nell Mescal's singing debut on the show, as they hailed the "talented family".

Nell, who is the younger sister of Normal People star Paul Mescal, made a stunning Late Late debut of her newest single Homesick. The Kildare native's proud parents Dearbhla and Paul were present in the audience and beamed with pride as their daughter performed on the show.

Later, the parents told Ryan Tubridy about their delight after the Normal People star was nominated for a BAFTA for his role in drama Aftersun. Paul's dad said: "'It was a good day in the office really.

"The good thing about it was the WhatsApp was all good news this week, my mum isn't well at the moment. It was just the best medicine you could give me," he added. Meanwhile, mum Dearbhla praised her "phenomenal" daughter Nell for her launch onto the music scene.

Dearbhla said: "She's just phenomenal. I'm very proud of her, she works very hard. .. She's very young, she's 19 and knew what she wanted to do since she was so young. She's now got this incredible talent and she's just so good," she added.

Social media users were also impressed with Nell's performance and praised her and Paul's parents for supporting their children's careers. One person said: "@nellmescal_congrats on a great debut on the @RTELateLateShow. You were fantastic and what lovely folks too. Great future ahead."

A second person said: "What a lovely moment for @nellmescal_and her mum tonight #LateLateShow." A third added: "What an insanely talented family, fair play to their parents for supporting them."
