RTE Late Late Show: Ryan Tubridy's emotional speech as €20 million raised for Irish charities

Ryan Tubridy announced a staggering €20 million was raised by Late Late Show fans for Irish charities over the course of last year.

An emotional Tubridy said he was "humbled" and "grateful beyond words".

A whopping €1.1 million was raised for Darkness Into Light by RTE viewers last night.

The annual event held in aid of Pieta House took place this morning and the fundraising goal of €5 million was exceeded even before it started.

Speaking on the Late Late Show, Ryan said: "The amazing TV audience that you are, you have donated a staggering total amount of €20 million to Irish charities.

"I mean that is- Per capita, it's mind-boggling. So we're very humbled and what else can we say but serious thank you from the bottom of our hearts from everyone here on the Late Late Show.

"The office teams, studio crew, the guests who turn up every week to make this all possible, we are grateful beyond words."

Late Late viewers took to social media last night to highlight the importance of discussion around mental health and suicide.

Paise rained down for the open discussion about how mental health affects many facets of Irish society, especially men.

Westmeath GAA star and former AFL player Ray Connellan, spoken word artist Malaki, and ultra-marathon runner Conor O'Keeffe also opened up to Ryan Tubridy during the show and many were happy to see such an important discussion take place.
