RTE Late Late Show: Marty Whelan and Riverdance to feature on Eurosong special

The Late Late Show catches Eurovision fever this week, with Ireland's entry for 2022 set to be decided.

A Eurosong special will air on RTE One on Friday, with host Ryan Tubridy in control as six hopefuls take to the stage, aiming to book their tickets to Turin as Ireland's representative in the annual music spectacular.

For the first time in several years, viewers at home will have the opportunity to cast their vote for their favourite song and help to decide who will fly the Irish flag at Eurovision.

The winner will be chosen by the combined votes awarded by, the Public Vote, an International Jury and a Studio Jury.

But that's not all, as the show will be entirely focused around the competition, with a couple of special guests dropping in.

Eurovision stalwart, commentator Marty Whelan will be on hand as our Green Room correspondent, capturing all the backstage action, throughout the show

Excitement on the night is sure to reach fever pitch with a very special interval performance from Riverdance, who first performed their iconic dance line in a spine-tingling routine at Eurovision back in 1994.

Last year, rock band Måneskin became overnight sensations by storming to Eurovision glory.

Since then, they've achieved superstardom, with their songs such as I Wanna Be Your Slave and a cover of Beggin' topping the charts worldwide, including Ireland.

Whoever gets the nod for Ireland will be performing in the second semi-final.

Last year, Ireland failed to qualify for the Eurovision final, after Lesley Roy didn't gain enough to get through with her song Maps, although she wasn't helped by a camera breaking moments before her performance.
