RTE Late Late Show 'humdinger' lineup teased by Ryan Tubridy as show returns

RTE star Ryan Tubridy is promising Late Late Show viewers a brilliant line-up of guests when the programme resumes next Friday.

The popular chat show will return for a new season on the first Friday in September after a break for the summer.

On his RTE radio programme on Friday, Tubridy teased listeners with what's to come on the upcoming Late Late Show.

He said he would be providing more details in the days leading up to the programme's autumn 2021 debut, but hinted at one guest who will likely join him on the famous couch.

It is expected that Sophie Toscan du Plantier's son will chat to Tubs about his mother's murder in West Cork in 1996.

Pierre-Louis Baudey-Vignaud has been tipped as a guest for Friday's show as part of a slot to mark the forthcoming 25th anniversary of the French filmmaker's death.

It was reported this week that Ian Bailey, a former suspect in Ms Toscan du Plantier's murder investigation, but who always maintained his innocence, would make a complaint to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland if RTE did not offer him the chance to defend himself on air.

Tubridy referenced the case on Friday morning's radio show, further indicating that he will interview Mr Baudey-Vignaud on the Late Late Show.

He also said viewers could expect a packed show next Friday full of well-known faces.

He said: "Last Friday of freedom for me, as of next Friday the Late Late Show is back.

"We have a stuffed and really, really positively, and when I say positively, it's a humdinger, [show] waiting for you next Friday.

"It's going to be full of joy and positivity and music and excitement and it's all happening next Friday, but more of that in the week."

Tubridy then remarked on comments made by the French President during his visit to Dublin yesterday.

Emmanuel Macron has said a new trial could be arranged for Ian Bailey if he travelled to France.

Mr Bailey was convicted in absentia of the killing of Sophie Toscan du Plantier by a Paris court in May 2019. The Irish courts later ruled that he would not be extradited to France, and Mr Bailey has consistently insisted he is innocent.

Tubridy said: "That story will feature quite prominently on the Late Late Show next Friday but I'll tell you more about that next week."

The Late Late Show returns to RTE One on September 3 at 9.35pm.
