RTE Late Late Show confirms return date and says the new season will have 'different gear change'

With a plethora of new shows like Kin, Conversations With Friends, The Dry and more - along with a host of great new documentaries to watch - RTE's Autumn slate has something for everyone.

However, given the fact that The Late Late Show is a cornerstone of many people's Friday night programming, its return is keenly awaited.

Well, viewers won't have to wait too long because RTE has confirmed that The Late Late Show returns to RTÉ One on Friday, September 3 at 9.30pm.

However, speaking with RTE, Ryan Tubridy said that the new season will be different with an emphasis being placed on "embracing the light" and aiming to "entertain, entertain, entertain".

Given the dominance of Covid over the past 18 months, plenty of viewers felt that the most recent season of The Late Late Show was a bit too heavy and dour, with not enough emphasis being placed on entertainment.

Speaking at RTE's launch of their Autumn lineup, Tubridy said that the show will undergo a "gear change" in its approach.

"I feel that it's a very different type of excitement because the last couple of years we've gone back to a very different class of Late Late Show, but I have the feeling we're coming out of that phase now and we're into a much bigger, brighter place.

"I think the mood is better. Certainly, the shadow has been cast, but we're emerging from that and we're ready for a different gear change for the show. We're starting to embrace the light and run to the crowd and the music and the entertainment side of things," he said.

The iconic show is also gearing up for its 60th anniversary next year and RTE has said that they'll be marking this impressive anniversary.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: "Following the incredible success of the special event shows over the past season there are a number of very exciting shows planned to bring the nation together in the way that only the Late Late Show can, and we will finish out the season looking forward celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Late Late Show in 2022, the longest-running chat show in the world!"
