RTE host Ryan Tubridy's strong message for people worrying about getting old

Ryan Tubridy said he found his 30s tough - but by starting to worry less he's now enjoying life in his 40s.

The Late Late Show presenter, who turns 46 later this month, is now doing things he wouldn't have done in the past.

The RTE host encouraged those who may be worrying about getting old to just relax and have fun.

He said: "I’m enjoying life. I’m 46 at the end of this month and it is strangely a good place to be.

"I find your 30s tough actually, they’re tougher than people allow for, because you’re running... it’s like the Hunger Games, and people are grabbing and they’re getting married and they’re buying the house and having kids and you’re like: ‘Where am I in this?’ It’s kind of difficult.

"And because you’re meant to be grown up, it’s strange because I certainly didn’t feel I had grown up enough.

"And then 40 was a bit of a weird one and then once you get through 40 you just go: ‘Lads this whole thing, it’s not around forever so start having fun because you did too much worrying.'

“Now you just go, ‘just relax.’ I would never have sung a duet with Daniel O'Donnell on television on The Late Late Show five years ago, or maybe five weeks ago, but then you get to a point where you say, ‘Look, it’s just fun'.

"Come on, what are you going to lose? Some people have no respect for you so they are just gone and the others will probably say 'you’re a good sport'.

"And also ‘why are you worrying about everybody all the time, just get on it with it'.

"I’m past caring about a lot of things, and a lot of people. I’m enjoying the good ones.

"There’s loads of really good eggs around the place, just hang with them.

"The old toxic heads... it’s cold in the shade and I don’t want to be there."

The dad-of-two was speaking on Wednesday at the launch of Coca-Cola’s Thank You Fund.

Tubridy, who's active on Instragram but doesn't follow anyone, also spoke of the ups and downs of social media.

He told the Irish Sun: "It’s social media and it's anti-social media.

"When it’s social, it’s gorgeous. I’m on Instagram, I don’t follow anyone, and Doireann Garrihy the other day posted something, ‘Tubridy and Beyonce follow no-one, #queens.’

"And I thought that was funny, I’m sure Beyonce was thrilled to be tagged.

"It’s because I don’t want to be getting into swiping people’s lives the whole time.

"People can follow if they like, if they don’t, don’t. But it’s nice leaving pictures and people can leave comments."
