RTE host Ryan Tubridy hails 'freedom day' as Late Late Show audiences can go maskless

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy has shared his delight after a major rule was lifted across the RTE campus on Friday.

It comes as RTE has removed the requirement for visitors and staff to wear face masks while on the premises.

Speaking on his RTE Radio One show this morning, Tubridy was excited about finally seeing people's faces after over two years of wearing face masks.

Tubridy said: "For the first time in two years I'm going to see people's faces looking back at me and I'm thrilled."

The presenter recounted how he met a colleague on Friday morning and questioned why he was still wearing a mask on "freedom day" for RTE.

Until now, Late Late Show audience members were still required to wear face coverings even though almost all Covid rules have been lifted.

Tonight's Late Late Show will include guests Westlife's Mark Feehily, Conversations With Friends’ Lenny Abrahamson and Alison Oliver, Paul Brady, John Sheahan and Mundy.

As they prepare for the launch of the eagerly awaited new drama Conversations with Friends, Oscar-nominated director Lenny Abrahamson and the show's Cork-born star Alison Oliver will join Ryan to chat about bringing Sally Rooney's debut novel to the small screen.

There will be a special musical treat with performances from Mundy, John Sheahan, and Paul Brady.

Plus, there'll be a very special performance from composer RuthAnne Cunningham and some of The Late Late Toy Show kids including Saoirse Ruane as they get ready to make a very special announcement that has been in the works for quite some time.

The Late Late Show will air this Friday on RTE One and RTE Player at 9.35pm
