RTE Home of the Year viewers are fast losing patience with the series new judges over what they described as “very harsh” and “snobbish” comments made in last night’s episode.
This week’s judge’s panel was made up of architects Amanda Bone and Hugh Wallace, and interior designer Suzie Mc Adam, with Bone receiving the majority of negative comments on social media.
“Amanda on Home of the Year is terrifying. I know she’s judging my house & she’s never seen it. #Homeoftheyear,”@Broniewonie posted on Twitter.
The judges visited three properties, a 200-year old converted industrial mill in Co Down, a contemporary home for a family of eight in Co Cork and an original 1920s cottage with a single storey extension in Co Dublin.
Looking first at the converted industrial mill, the complete refurbishment of the dilapidated property that viewers saw was not enough to garner much praise from Bone or Mc Adam giving the house a score of seven each, although it was highly praised by judge Wallace, who gave it an eight.
One viewer wrote on social media: “Amanda Bone is not popular & is a very negative person throughout the series every house we've seen has had continuous negative comments it’s very frustrating and if she continues to do this I won't be watching. I'm missing Deirdre bring back Deirdre instead PLEASE!”
“‘Does upcycling ever work?’ asks one of the judges on this week’s episode of #homeoftheyear That has to be one of the most stuck up comments I've ever heard in my life.” Another viewer pointed out.
The Cork home, with its comfortable feeling in a modern style made some impact on both Bone and Mc Adam, both awarding it an eight, commenting on some of the house’s features. Wallace decided to give the house a seven.
Finally, the Dublin cottage was the break out winner of the night with Wallace giving it a ten for its split-level design and modern loft vibe. Mc Adam was also impressed and awarded the property an eight, however Bone had a few choice words and only gave the home a seven.
Home Of The Year returns next Tuesday March 16 on RTE One at 8.30pm.
