RTE First Dates Ireland viewers left cringing after extremely awkward moment between couple

Anyone who tuned in to First Dates Ireland on Thursday night was hoping to once again see romance blossom - but they failed to get their wish as one date seemed to turn on an extremely awkward moment.

We were introduced to Euceline, a woman on the show to find her true love. She was matched up with Joseph, a criminal barrister from Meath who said he "wasn't interested in a friend... I'm looking for the love of my life."

Things started off fairly smooth between the pair and it looked like we'd get a possible second date.

Euceline opened up about her romantic past, revealing that she had been previously married to a man. The catch was that the man she was married to had married someone else while on holiday.

However, shortly after that, her husband passed away following a cancer battle.

It seemed like Joseph was uncomfortable in the situation, as he joked about her possibly needing a criminal barrister and began to laugh nervously.

It did not appear to go down too well with Euceline, and was even worse on social media.

One person tweeted: "The barrister really annoyed me. Zero empathy for his date's back story. Laughed in her face like.

Another added: "Your man just chuckling away at her most traumatic life experience there.

While a third said: "The barrister guy needs to learn how to be tactful. Laughing at her story, I actually think that he didn't believe her

"Oh my god this man is not laughing at this poor widowed woman’s awful situation wtf, girl do not go on another date with him" a fourth tweeted.

To be fair, Joseph did take to his own twitter in the aftermath to explain that he was "trying to break the tension in an uncomfortable situation on a first date."
