RTE Fair City star Ryan Andrews announces engagement to girlfriend Michaela O'Neill

RTE soap star Ryan Andrews has revealed that he and his long-term girlfriend Michaela O'Neill are engaged.

The Fair City actor shared the news on Instagram alongside a gorgeous snap of the happy couple enjoying the sunshine at Ballymoney beach in Co Wexford.

The picture of the beaming pair, which features Michaela flashing her new diamond, is simply captioned, "Forever!", alongside a love heart and engagement ring emoji and today's date.

Ryan and Michaela have been together for several years, and in 2020 they celebrated another milestone of buying a home together.

They met on the set of the Olympia panto, which they both perform in every year, as teenagers and have been in a relationship since.

People were quick to congratulate the Fair City star, who plays Sean Cassidy in the show, and his primary teacher fiancee.

Singing duo Jedward commented on the post: "Best news ever! Congrats you two legends."

Fellow RTE star Maia Dunphy said: "Oh what lovely news!"

Conor McGregor's sister Erin, who like Ryan is a former Dancing with the Stars contestant, added: "OMG brilliant, so happy guys."

Last year, Ryan admitted that being separated from Michaela during lockdown was the biggest challenge they have ever faced.

Before they bought a home together, the soap star was living in North County Dublin while Michaela was based in Rathfarnham in South Dublin, more than two kilometres or 20 minutes away from each other.

The Dancing with the Stars finalist told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “Michaela and I didn’t see each other for the full lockdown, we spent a couple of months apart.

“We didn’t get to see each other again until the restrictions were lifted and were allowed to travel within your own county again.

“It was a mad scenario for us because we would never go without seeing each other. The WhatsApp and Zoom calls were going 90 and when we could actually meet up, things were even better and our relationship was stronger.

“It was hard at the start and I would have loved to have seen her, especially when I was stuck in between the four walls of the sitting room at home.

“I would say it was the biggest challenge we have faced as a couple.”
