RTE Fair City fans in state of confusion as lockdown rules appear to have changed in Carrigstown

Fans of the RTE soap where left in a state of confusion over last night’s episode which appeared to have relaxed it’s social-distancing guidelines.

Home visits, indoor cafés and selective mask wearing was seen throughout the episode from the cast of Carrigstown.

While the episode showed some characters wearing masks in shops and keeping their distance on the street, there were a few instances where it appeared that Fair City had entered a post Covid-19 world.

“Hang on, is the lockdown over in Carrigstown? #FairCity” tweeted one viewer.

“Lads, if ye want a pint, head to McCoy’s or Vino’s #FairCity No lockdown there” tweeted another fan.

The episode followed the upcoming wedding of Cass and Bela, who are at the centre of a local fluff piece on the same-sex marriage.

Popular soap operas such as Coronation Street and Emmerdale have been employing social-distancing guidelines for actors since filming was allowed to recommence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Limiting the amount of characters in any one scene and placing them strategically fair apart with creative camera work has been something that even the not-so-eagle-eyed-viewers have picked up on since the soap operas have returned to filming.

“Is there no Covid in #faircity? Home visits, sit in coffees, indoor chats? Can I live there?” tweeted @Emmet_Scanlon.

Filming was suspended for four months and went off-air in 2020, for the first time in its history, due to lockdown restrictions.

The soap has since returned to running four times a week.

Episodes are available on the RTE Player.
