RTE Eoghan McDermott update: 2FM co-host Doireann Garrihy confirms break from show

RTE 2FM DJ Doireann Garrihy has confirmed that she will be off air for the next few weeks.

The star said the hiatus is needed so she can come up with a new plan for her Breakfast Show.

She has been hosting the early morning gig by herself since Eoghan McDermott departed the station suddenly last month.

The presenter is expected to announce his replacement after the brainstorm but the airwaves will be filled by Tara Stewart and Stephen Byrne until she returns.

She said: "At 9am this morning, I'm going to be leaving the studio and heading directly to what we like to call the 2FM radio idea factory.

"Which is basically just my desk in 2FM but the factory thing sounded cooler.

"And I'm going to be doing what you would do in a radio ideas factory, particularly the breakfast show department. I'm gonna be trialling, testing and fine tuning a brand new breakfast show.

"While I'm gone for a few weeks, Tara Stewart and Stephen Byrne, they're gonna be keeping you entertained in the mornings. And then I'll be back."

Amongst those hotly tipped to replace McDermott and co-host the show with Garrihy are Carl Mullan and Marty Guilfoyle.

The SPIN1038 and Spin South West DJ Marty previously hosted The Zoo Crew with Doireann and listeners loved the chemistry the pair had.

Carl has been providing cover shifts at the station when presenters are on annual leave, while he also presents Weekend Breakfast with Aifric O’Connell.
