RTE Doireann Garrihy rules out any romance between her and co-presenter Greg O’Shea

RTE presenter Doireann Garrihy has ruled out any romance between her and her Love Island star co-presenter Greg O’Shea, saying: ‘I’m a professional’.

Limerick native O’Shea is filling in for Garrihy’s usual co-host Eoghan McDermott on 2fm Breakfast this month while he heads down under to record the voice over for Love Island Australia.

When asked if she has any interest in sparking up a romantic relationship with the rugby 7s ace, she said: “Oh my god! I think any female and male duo get that.

“Chris and Ciara have got it before. I used to get it with Martin Guilfoyle[on Spin 1038].

“People always wield this kind of thing on but you can rest assured I am extremely professional.

“Greg is extremely professional - we still don’t know each other very well but I hope we’ll be pals but there is no romance whatsoever.”

The 27-year-old presenter also remained coy when asked if she would have ‘coupled up’ with the Love Island winner if she was in the villa this summer.

She said: “I wouldn’t do Love Island first of all because I wouldn’t have the body.

“If I was in there.. But sure, I don’t know who else is on offer here! Look it, I couldn’t possibly say.”

Meanwhile, crediting the law student, who is a complete newbie to radio, she added: “I think he is great. I didn’t know him before, obviously.

“I think he’s a great guy, he’s so friendly to everyone.

“He’s humbler, he’s taking it all in his stride.

“He’s be mad if he didn’t grab every opportunity coming his way and try everything - if it works out it works out, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

“He still has a massive interest in the law and he still wants to pursue that and the Rugby 7s - he’s hoping to make the cut for their trip to Sydney in the New Year.

“He hasn’t lost touch with what he wanted before this madness, so that’s the key.”

Speaking to TV Now, she also revealed that her mother Clare is a bigger fan of the rugby 7s star than she is of McDermott.

She said: “Oh, she thinks’ he is fabulous!.

“She texted me yesterday and said ‘you’re doing very well and he seems absolutely lovely.

“She’s delighted. She thinks he’s great.

“I think she thinks Eoghan is a bit of a messer, she gets angry with Eoghan every now and again she goes: “you need to tell him to back off!.

“I’m like mom, it’s a bit of craic, we actually get on well really but we rub each other up the wrong way.

“It’s a bit of craic on air but don’t get too Irish mammy about it.”
