RTE Claire Byrne Live viewers amused by 'nightmare-fuel' mannequins showing how social distancing will work on flights

People watching RTE's Claire Byrne Live last night couldn't get over the mannequins used to show how plane passengers would be expected to social distance on flights.

The presenter had a display set up in studio with mannequin 'passengers' wearing face masks.

Byrne then discussed how airline companies were going to introduce measures to ensure coronavirus will not be passed between countries.

Talking to travel journalist Eoghan Corry, Byrne asked: "The airlines we know are planning for a return to flying in the very short term and we've brought in some - they're not my friends now these people, they're your friends, I think are they?

"So we wanted to just mock up what it might look like so I'm going to sit here in this middle seat.

A viewer captured the moment Byrne looked at the mannequin on her left suspiciously. (@the_other_peter/Twitter)

"Why are we social distancing in our normal lives if we're going to get on a plane I'm rubbing here against these people and look he's sharing this (arm rest) with his big hands and I'm sharing it here."

In response to Byrne's worry about sitting in the middle of two other people, face masks or not. Corry replied:

"The big argument about the middle seat - it came , it went - the European Air Agency decided it doesn't really work to social distance on an aircraft. There's no necessity for it."

"Remember the word Hepa, Hepa is your friend. The Hepa air filter on an aircraft recycles all the air in the cabin 30 times an hour, nine time what you do in a hospital operating theatre."

The dialogue answered questions viewers may have had relating to how their flights will work if they have to travel in the near future.

However, some viewers were too preoccupied with the mannequins used for the display to focus on much else.

Replying to one of Byrnes tweets, Aaron replied: "Those mannequins are nightmare fuel."

Dawn added: "Could you not have sourced a few decent mannequins hun? These beauts from wish aren't helping the anxiety levels!! "

One viewer even caught Byrne giving the mannequin on her left side a hilarious look.

Peter said: "I’m in BITS #cblive."
