RTE Claire Byrne Live viewers all saying the same thing after 'heartbreaking' Ashling Murphy tribute

Viewers of Monday night's Claire Byrne Live programme were left emotional after watching a "powerful" tribute to Ashling Murphy.

The 23-year-old will be laid to rest on Tuesday with huge crowds expected to mourn the young teacher at her funeral.

RTE paid tribute to Ashling for the entirety of Monday's show, beginning with a montage from the last few days of vigils held across the country in her honour.

A teacher from Durrow NS, where she was a first class teacher, as well as a member of Comhaltas, spoke about Ashling and how she will be remembered at her funeral.

Her pupils will form a guard of honour while the Mass will feature numerous songs as a tribute to the talented musician.

The programme also featured an analysis of the criminal investigation to apprehend Ashling's killer, as well as powerful stories from Irish women about their experiences of gender-based violence.

Among these women was model Thalia Heffernan, who opened up about a recent horrific experience of seeing a man masturbating beside her car while she visited a petrol station.

RTE viewers were left "heartbroken" by the tributes to Ashling, with many sharing their grief for the Murphy family.

One person said: "I just can’t comprehend what her poor family are going through having to sit around a coffin with their daughter and sister lying in it because of something so senseless, her whole life was ahead of her and now she’s gone, it’s so senseless it’s so sad."

A second said: "My God, that was a difficult watch on #cblive. Its heartbreaking what her family now have to live with. Now, my 7 yr old (a girl) who won't go to bed sees the image of Aishling Murphy on @TodaywithClaire on screen. 'Is that the girl? Yes I say. She looks so beautiful' she says."

Someone else stated: "Got completely emotional listening to the teacher and musician talking about Ashling Murphy's funeral tomorrow morning. We've all gone through the wake experience but it's unimaginable to think what the Murphys are going through tonight."

Another person said: "Powerful, emotional- v Irish. In death, we move closer to each other, sharing love and support in song, story, our presence, a handshake."

While someone else said: "That was very powerful..."
