RTE are missing a trick by not capitalising on GAA nostalgia, says Barney Rock

Barney Rock reckons RTE are missing a trick by not digging deep into their vaults and pulling out the nostalgia card.

With GAA supporters crying out for live action, the Dublin great believes the next best thing is a fresh magazine show focusing on a great game from the past.

Rock said: “That’s something I’m surprised we’re not seeing a lot more of.

“There’s such an appetite out there for GAA action and if they were to go down that route each week with a big game and a couple of people chatting about it, it would get people interested.

“It might be the thing that gets a young lad or girl to go out to the garden and get playing because they’re not seeing anything else to inspire them. And it could be that way for a good while yet.

“That Dublin-Kerry game in 2013 was a classic, three goals each and nearly 30 points between them. And there’s a serious amount of outstanding games from over the years when you think back, I’ve only mentioned a couple of Dublin games.

"They have the rights and you’d imagine there’s TV space to be filled so hopefully it’s something they’ll look into to shorten the next few weeks or maybe months.”
