RTE apologises after stars including Miriam O'Callaghan and Bryan Dobson pictured at gathering during Level Five

RTE stars have apologised after attending a social gathering and posing for photos without face masks.

Miriam O'Callaghan, Bryan Dobson, David McCullagh and Jon Williams all smiled for pictures at the going away do for Phil Collins, who was leaving the organisation after 30 years.

All stars and RTE have apologised for the "impromptu gathering" - the Irish Sun reports.

A number of staff attended the small party, with several top stars posing for photos without wearing face masks.

An RTE spokesperson said: "RTE and those involved regret this occurred.

"Over the last few days we reminded all staff of their obligations to keep themselves and the site safe."

RTE Morning Ireland presenter Mary Wilson this morning said the RTÉ incident was "a good example" of the complacency that has been discussed recently.

HSE Chief Paul Reid was speaking on the show but didn't pick on the RTE group in particular, while stating that he was aware of many similar incidents in many settings across Ireland.

Political correspondent Paul Cunningham and presenter Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh were also pictured at the gathering.

Photos of the event were posted on RTE's in house newsletter with the bash itself taking place on November 12, during Level Five.

The Irish Mirror has contacted RTE for a comment.
