RTE and Met Eireann forecaster Joanna Donnelly gives surprising advice to keep your bed cold at night during heatwave

A leading Met Éireann meteorologist and RTÉ News weather presenter has given her best bid of advice to keep your bed cold during a heatwave.

Ireland will sizzle in conditions of temperatures up to 30C in parts over the next four days before we finally get a bit of a break on Sunday.

But in the meantime, we'll sweat all throughout the weekend, and there isn't any respite at night either.

Forecasters are warning that the record Irish temperature ever recorded in August could be broken over the next few days.

Highs of 30C in the day will be match with temperatures of around 15C at night - meaning uncomfortable nights for many.

But Joanna Donnelly has swooped in with her top tip to make sure your bed is nice and cool for you to get in to.

Taking to social media, she wrote: "To get a better sleep in the coming nights CLOSE the windows in your bedroom during the day and pull the curtains. Keep the warm air out."

Thicker curtains keep out the sun’s hot rays and different layers in your windows also help insulate your home - so her advice comes from fairly solid logic.

Joanna didn't choose to put a video alongside her tweet on Wednesday - just days ago, Met Eireann and RTE expert posted an update on the heatwave with a small glass of wine in her hand.

But some people were fixated on the contents of her glass and the forecaster felt the need to defend herself on social media the following day.
