RTE 2FM's Jennifer Zamparelli responds to backlash over planned face masks segment on radio show

Broadcaster Jennifer Zamparelli has responded to backlash she received over a segment on masks planned for her radio show.

The 2FM star took to Twitter to inform her followers that an 'open discussion' would be taking place on her radio show this week about face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Jennifer went on to say she wanted to hear from anyone who may have a strong opinion on wearing or not wearing masks.

She wrote: "We are having an open discussion on my show on @RTE2fm tomorrow about face masks.

"Do you have strong opinions on wearing them or not wearing them ? I’d love to hear from you."

However the radio host was quickly met with a host of fiery responses from followers who hit out at the planned segment for giving a platform to people who are anti-mask.

Jennifer hit back however insisting that the segment was not a debate and that it was appropriate to examine the topic given recent anti-mask protests which took place in Dublin last week.

She said: "Wow so much abuse so few characters... Firstly considering the protests on the weekend we want to look at the psychology behind someone who does not wear a mask despite the overwhelming medical advice.

"Wearing a mask is not a debate. No one said that."

"We know what is right and we know we should wear a mask. But there are still those who feel it is a discussion that should be had, why is that? Tune in from nine."
