RTE 2FM's Jennifer Zamparelli 'abused' on Twitter by fans of K-pop band BTS

RTE 2FM presenter Jennifer Zamparelli revealed she's being hassled on Twitter by die-hard fans of Korean pop band BTS.

The presenter said she was "abused" online by followers of the boyband, who accused her of "spreading rumours" about the band.

One particularly vicious meme tweeted to her said: “I will not throw her (Jennifer) under the bus, I will pick up the bus and drop it on her several times then I’ll get in the bus and drive over her and reverse it over her again."

It came after Lottie Ryan reported on the band taking an "extended break" during a showbiz segment on Jen's show.

But Jennifer revealed she'd received a lot of backlash after the discussion.

Speaking on her radio show on Wednesday morning, she said: "I got bombarded by what they call themselves as the BTS Army, the boyband’s fans basically, they weren’t happy with me, I was ‘spreading rumours’, OK fair enough it was on my show.

“So I was a bit hurt by all this, because well first of all they’re not getting their facts right, and second of all, like, why are they getting so angry? We were just chatting. Then on Tuesday I kind of made it a little bit worse…”

Jennifer went on to reveal she cut a BTS song short live on air which angered the fans further.

But she said she was willing to apologise for this and wanted to call a truce.

Jennifer said: "First of all, I will apologise for cutting off your song, you were probably bopping around your kitchen or where ever you are listening to that, if you’re a K-pop fan.

“And I cut it short because I was angry with you because I got bombarded by so many messages on Twitter.”

Jennifer read out examples of what BTS fans had sent her including a meme which read: “I will not throw her under the bus, I will pick up the bus and drop it on her several times, then I will get in the bus and drive over her and then back up and drive over her again.”

The presenter said: “So, then it was getting kind of violent and I was like, woah, woah, woah, can everybody chill? Chill out.”

She added that she understood where the fans were coming from as she herself was a massive East 17 fan once and was very jealous of Daniella Westbrook who was married to lead singer Brian Harvey.

"I remember how I felt with that band, and there was no Twitter back then, but I wanted Daniella Westbrook dead, OK, I’m gonna be honest with you – I did.

"So BTS fans, I understand. I do, I understand. But really, there is no excuse for telling someone you want to run over them because they cut off a song. I mean, that’s not right,” Jennifer said.

Taking to Twitter this morning, Jennifer said it was time to clear the air and extended an invitation to super fans of all kinds to come on the show and chat to her.

BTS fan Lia agreed that the messages “had gone way too far” and reminded others that BTS have an anti-bullying and anti-violence stance.

However, she added that BTS fans are “really protective” because they are “like a family”.
