RTE 2FM's Eoghan McDermott says friend Julian Benson is ‘happy to be out’ of hospital

RTE 2FM's Eoghan McDermott said his friend and Dancing With The Stars judge Julian Benson is 'happy to be out of hospital.

The radio presenter went on The Late Late Show earlier this year and cut his hair off live trying to raise money for Benson's Cystic Fibrosis charity.

Benson's charity aimed to raise funds to pay for accommodation for CF patients getting treatment in Dublin.

McDermott spoke to Martin King and Muireann O'Connell on the Six O'Clock show about the fundraiser and also updated viewers on Julian's progress sharing the news that Julian had been discharged from hospital and is happy to be out.

He said: "Yeah he's cocooning pretty much. He doesn't live a million miles away from St Vincent's (Hospital).

"The estate he's in has a little communal green area and he's been strolling around.

"In wintertime, in general, he usually keeps himself to himself because any little infection like a cold or flu can be dangerous for someone with CF.

"He's not hanging around with a load of people."

He added: "He's happy to be out."

As well as telling Martin and Muireann about the fundraiser and Julian's progress, he also spoke about his new haircut he got on The Late Late Show when raising money for the charity.

He explained: "I envy anybody who is like this by choice.

"I don't even wash it anymore it gets wet in the shower and I consider it clean.

"And for a while, I thought it was unhygienic but then Hozier, he's got gorgeous luscious, long hair and he doesn't shampoo his hair and he said after a couple of weeks it becomes self-cleaning, so I'm banking on that."

Although he admitted he likes his short hair, he's planning on allowing it to grow back.
