RSPCA raid Dave's Aquarium pet shop as it loses its licence to sell animals

A pet shop has lost its licence to sell animals following an inspection.

Dave's Aquarium, in Folds Road, Bolton, was visited by trading standards and the RSPCA last Thursday (July 22) and Bolton Council confirmed that reptiles, rabbits, mice, and birds were removed from the store.

Manchester Evening News understands that almost 50 animals were taken by the RSPCA during the visit, with more taken yesterday (July 29).

Signs have also been put up throughout the store telling customers that certain animals are not for sale and forbidding them from entering other sections.

A Bolton Council spokesman said: "Trading standards officers and officers from the RSPCA visited Dave’s Aquarium on Fold Road, Bolton, on Thursday 22 nd July, in response to public concerns for the health and wellbeing of the animals.

"During the inspection, RSPCA officers removed several animals including reptiles, rabbits, mice and birds due to concerns.

"Health and safety issues at the premises were also raised and as a result, trading standards have declined to renew the business licence."

An RSPCA spokesman said: “The RSPCA has assisted Trading Standards at premises in Bolton.

“A number of animals have been removed.

“We’re unable to comment further while enquiries continue.”

Manchester Evening News approached Dave's Aquarium but the business declined to comment.
