RSPCA Queensland is appealing for information about a young man caught on film allegedly throwing a cat against a brick wall.
The video, captured by an anonymous Snapchat user, appears to show a dark-haired Caucasian man in a blue and yellow work shirt throw a cat over a fence, towards the outer wall of a neighbouring brick home.
The cat appears to hit the wall and window before disappearing from view.
He is captured laughing about the incident with another person before the video ends.
Media outlets passed the video to RSPCA Queensland after a woman, who said she was from Ipswich, sent it to them.
RSPCA spokesperson Michael Beatty said investigators had not been able to verify whether the incident happened in Queensland or contact the woman who shared the video.
Mr Beatty said he hoped investigators could track down the people involved with the help of social media.
"We unfortunately have seen quite a bit of [animal cruelty] pop up on social media," he said.
"We have caught people before, so I'm sure someone will come forward."
Mr Beatty said the public's response to the video was mixed.
"Understandably, people do get upset about animal cruelty, there's no doubt about that," he said.
"Then again, I've seen quite a few comments from people who say, 'Oh it's only a cat, why are you worried, I hate cats'.
"The cat could have been roaming but you can pick [it] up and put it next door, you don't have throw it into a window."
Mr Beatty said RSPCA animal welfare inspectors could investigate incidents and prosecute perpetrators under the Animal Care and Protection Act without police involvement.
