RSPCA hunt for person who dumped dog in a weighed down bag on Portishead beach

Sickened animal welfare officers are appealing for help after the body of a dog was dumped in a bag weighed down with a roofing brick.

The body of the small brown crossbreed was discovered by a member of the public on the beach at Portishead on April 10, and now the RSPCA is launching a public appeal to find out who was responsible.

They believe the dog and its owner are local, but have been unable to trace them through the microchip the dog had.

That chip showed that she was called Coco and was only a one-year-old.

But the contact details on the chip are out of date, so the owner can’t be traced.

“A member of the public found her body and contacted us,” explained RSPCA Chief Inspector Dan Hatfield.

“She was placed in a rucksack, which had been weighed down by a distinct roofing brick.

“We have made inquiries with the contact details on the microchip but we have not had any luck, however we do believe she was from the local area so it might be that local people will know who she belonged to.

“We’re very keen to trace Coco’s owner and also to find out how her body came to be dumped in this way. Anyone with information should contact us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018,” he added.
