The RSPCA has launched an appeal after what it is describing as a ‘sad and unusual discovery’ on the banks of the Feeder in Bristol.
An angler discovered a dead dog inside a suitcase hidden in bushes on Feeder Road this week, the charity said.
The dog wasn’t chipped, and had been injured before it died, and now RSPCA inspectors said they want to find out what had happened and how the poor animal had ended up being disposed of like that.
The sickening discovered was made on Wednesday (August 21) by a man fishing nearby. He found the suitcase which had been left standing upright and hidden in the bushes near metal fencing next to the canal, close to the footbridge crossing near Barton Hill.
RSPCA inspector Simon Coombs is investigating the matter. He said that sadly, the dog had bruising to the abdomen and a tear in his tongue. It was not microchipped so it hasn’t been possible to trace an owner.
“This sad and unusual discovery was made by an angler looking for a fishing spot, who contacted us after finding the dog inside the suitcase,” he said.
“We have no way of knowing where he came from so we are appealing to the public to come forward with information.

The suitcase was an old, tan-coloured Antler suitcase.
