The Swansea RSL sub-branch is imploring thieves to return a pair of historically-significant flags to the branch, after the Swansea Memorial Hall was robbed a fortnight ago.
Vice president of the branch Brian Pearce said two flags were taken from the hall, which had both been encased in glass and displayed on a wall.
"One was captured from the Japanese in World War II and signed by all the soldiers when it was captured. That was taken with the glass frame and everything, so there must have been more than one person to lift it off the wall. It was at least three or four metres off the ground," he said.
"The other flag was an Australian Red Ensign flag that was flown in Cairo," he said. "That was taken out of its case, so it could have been damaged."
Mr Pearce said the flags were of great sentimental value to the branch.
"They were donated to the sub-branch by diggers and we would like them returned," he said.
Mr Pearce said cleaners had noticed the flags were missing on Wednesday, November 27. A community group that uses the hall said the flags were there the day prior.
"The hall is owned by the state government. It's used for parties, Tai Chi, golf groups, fishing, all sorts of groups - it's for everyone," he said.
"We don't know whether someone had left the door open or not."
Mr Pearce said the sub-branch had reported the theft to police, but would "just like the flags back".
"We don't care who did it. They can just leave them at Swansea RSL, no questions asked, or they can call me," he said.
