RSGS talk by Blue Planet expert

An advisor for Sir David Attenborough’s ‘Frozen Planet’ and ‘Blue Planet II’ will be making a talk in Perth tonight (October 8).

Professor Mark Brandon worked as an academic advisor for both the popular BBC documentary series, and his talk will kick off the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s ‘inspiring people’ series.

In his talk, Mark will go behind the scenes of the programmes and explore how science and discovery were the driving forces behind the two multi-award-winning documentaries.

These series used breakthroughs in polar and marine science and cutting edge technologies to bring viewers face-to-face with the natural world.

He said: “For my entire career, I’ve worked in the polar regions so I couldn’t miss the chance to work with the BBC.

“I’m delighted to be coming to talk about the latest research that goes into these series.

“And I’m honoured to be part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s ‘inspiring people’ programme as it gives me the opportunity to reach different cities and committed audiences.”

Mark’s talk will take place from 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 8 at the Salutation Hotel.

Tickets are £10, and are free for the society’s members and students and can be bought online via Eventbrite or on the door.
