NEW DELHI: In one of the biggest gold seizures at any airport in India in the recent past, the customs department at Indira Gandhi International Airport intercepted two Kenyan passengers and recovered 19 gold bars, amounting to Rs 7.5 crore.
A customs official said they intercepted two Kenyan passengers who arrived from Nairobi via Addis Ababa on Monday morning. “Searching them resulted in recovery of 19 gold bars collectively weighing 15.57 kg. The gold was concealed in specially-made pockets in the cargo pants worn by them. Further investigations and legal procedures are underway,” said an official. They have not been arrested yet.
