Rs 60 cr slapped on polluting units, Rs 44 cr recovered: Haryana chief secretary

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana govt has imposed a penalty of Rs 60 crore on the polluting units. Out of these Rs 44 crore has been recovered by Haryana State Pollution Control Board and Rs 15 crore by State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority Haryana.

Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal shared this on Friday while chairing the meeting called for constituting a high powered committee to utilize these funds.

The chief secretary constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of CEO, Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Sudhir Rajpal to prepare an action plan and utilization of these funds for remediation and restitution of the environment. The other members of the committee will be director, urban local bodies, MD, HSIIDC, Commissioner MCF and deputy commissioner, Faridabad. Regional officer, Pollution Control Board will be member secretary.

He also reviewed the status report about the remediation of pollution in Yamuna and Ghaggar River. Kaushal directed the Deputy Commissioner, Faridabad to identify spots where industrial effluents are being discharged which is causing water contamination. He in stern tone directed the concerned officer to regularly monitor such activities. The state government is taking concrete steps to strengthen the sewerage system of cities and towns. It was apprised during the meeting that Faridabad area is divided into three zones namely Badshahpur, Partapgarh and Mirzapur which include two major drains Buriya Nallah and Gaunchi Drain in Faridabad and Palwal districts.

The chief secretary directed the officers that complete rehabilitation of these two nallahs should be done before May 2023. He said that officers should explore possibilities to set up STPs and CETPs according to the effluent generation and processing thereof.
