Rs 5,000 to Rs 75,000 relief likely if you buy electric vehicles in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: UT adviser Dharam Pal on Tuesday formed a three-member committee to submit its report on financial incentives to be given to buyers of electric vehicles in a bid to promote them. They will be besides those offered by the Centre, according to sources.

The committee comprises deputy commissioner, municipal commissioner and Chandigarh Renewal Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (Crest) CEO.

The Crest, in its draft policy, has proposed to waive registration fee for e-vehicles already exempted from road tax till 2023. The proposal suggests incentives of Rs 5,000 for buyers of first 1,000 electric cars, Rs 5,000 for buyers of first 2,000 electric two-wheelers, Rs 30,000 for registered owners of electric three wheelers, including e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-autos/ Sources said Pal asked officials to prepare a report on how much funds will be required, from where they will be arranged and on arranging additional funds if required.

A senior official said the incentive of Rs 5,000 on purchase of four-wheelers will be subject to a maximum of Rs 75,000 per vehicle, which means the incentive proposed by the administration along with already given under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles should not be more than that amount.

Similarly, the incentive of Rs 5,000 proposed for twowheelers shall be subject to a total of Rs 30,000.
