Rs 25 lakh cash, gold worth Rs 80 lakh seized from Anil Bhalla's house

PANCHKULA: In the course of the three-day production remand period of extortionist Anil Bhalla and his son Sahil Bhalla, the special investigation team of Panchkula Police managed to recover around Rs 25 lakh cash and around Rs 80 lakh worth of gold jewellery, besides an illegal pistol and some blank cheques from his house. Services of an ASI at large in the case have been terminated.

In a joint press conference, assistant commissioner of police (Panchkula) Surinder Singh and ACP (Crime) Aman Kumar said that the accused extortionist Anil Bhalla and his son Sahil Bhalla were brought to Panchkula on production warrant for three days on Tuesday.

ACP Surinder said, "Fresh recoveries have been made in the case from the house of the accused. The jewellery items and cash were hidden in various almirahs and drawers of the house. Further investigation is on."

Services of ASI Gurmez Singh, who has been absconding since Bhalla's arrest, have been terminated by DCP Surinder Pal Singh. Anticipatory bail of the accused ASI was rejected two days ago.

On May 30, Panchkula Police recovered Rs 4.63 crore cash, 697 gram opium, two illegal pistols, three magazines and 11 live cartridges from Anil Bhalla's son Sahil Bhalla and wife Anjali when they were fleeing in a car after withdrawing the cash from their bank account.

After the huge recovery of cash, weapons, ammunition and opium, Anil Bhalla and his son Sahil Bhalla were taken on production remand by the Panchkula police.
