RS 2.7 lakh lost in burglary at security guard’s home

PUNE: Unknown men in the early hours of Wednesday stole Rs50,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs2.20 lakh from a private security guard’s house, while he was fast asleep, at Marunji near Hinjewadi.

An officer from the Hinjewadi police said that the security guard’s son, who works as a delivery person, unknowingly left the door unlocked while going out for work around midnight. “The thieve(s) might have taken advantage of this and made off with the cash and gold ornaments,” said an officer from the Hinjewadi police. The security guard’s wife has filed a complaint with the Hinjewadi police.

The officer said that according to the complainant, on March 29, after dinner, she and her husband went to sleep around 11.30pm as they were tired as had worked throughout the day. “The woman woke up around 2am and found the main door of their house open. She locked the door and found that the door of their cupboard was also open,” the officer said.
