REPORT: Former Jaguars QB Blake Bortles to visit the Rams on Monday

Former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles will be making his first visit since becoming a free agent, and it will be with a team many didn’t expect. Per Adam Silver of NFL Network, the Los Angeles Rams will host the veteran on Monday in an attempt to sure up their depth behind Jared Goff.

Bortles, 26, spent five seasons with the Jags after being the highest quarterback selection in franchise history in the 2014 NFL Draft. While with the team he had an up and down journey, accumulating a career completion percentage of 59.3 for 17,646 passing yards, 75 interceptions and 105 touchdowns.

The Rams’ interest in Bortles could be due to their senior offensive assistant Jedd Fisch, who was his offensive coordinator with the Jags when Bortles was a rookie. Additionally, the veteran would be a big upgrade over their current No. 2 Sean Mannion, who only has one career start in the NFL to his name.

Simply put, Bortles getting a chance to learn from Sean McVay and his staff would be great for the veteran as he’s never had an innovative mind of his caliber coach him up. However, with teams out there like the Miami Dolphins needing a starter, I believe Bortles may take his time on a decision though sitting behind Goff and learning from McVay certainly wouldn’t be a bad thing.
